Thirukavithalam----Kapisthalam.

Kapisthalam near Kumbakonom is my ancestral [paternal] home. The temple herein is one of Krishna kshetrams that lie on the banks of river Cauvery.

The reigning deity is Gajendra vardhan .As per traditions ,this is the place where Vishnu saved the elephant Gajendran from the cruel jaws of a crocodile when as a last resort the mighty elephant weakened by his ineffective struggles called out aloud to the primordial one --Adi moolam, to help him live.

Thirumhizhsai Aazhwar [4 th t0 5th centAD]has sung a hymn in praise of the deity .It as follows---

Kootramum saara koduvinnaiyum sara thee ,matramum sara vagai arindhen,
Atrangkaraikidakum kannan kadal kidakum mayan urai kidakum ullanduennakku!.............2431.

Meaning.

I have found the solution to the fear of death , to the cruel consequences of bad deeds and to be free of doing evil acts!

The solution is the Charmasloka gifted by Lord Krishna ,the One who is reclining on the ocean and is also enshrined in the temple that is in the banks of the river![Cauvery]

Dear Amar,

Kapisthalam was the native place of my forefathers.I visited the place only to worship at the ancient temple which is a divyadeasm.I have no other connection with that place.

Since you are eager to be of service i suggest that you visit the temple when you plan your trip to India, next and get to know first hand the requirements of the temple and also of the town from the bhattacharya[who himself needs monetary help] who lives just opposite to this temple.

Your sincere contributions would definetly be welcome but you must also be satisfied that it is put in good use ,hence the above suggestion.
good luck and best wishes in your noble endeavour.
