Aazhwars hymns on Sri Varadharjar Perumal at Kancheepuram Vardaraja perumal temple.Translation

Sri Vardharajar andHis consorts Sri Devi and Bhu Devi and Perundevi thaayaar at VaradaRaja perumal temple at Kanchipuram

I sat on the steps leading to the pillared and closed corridor flanking the spacious circumbulatory passage. It was very quiet, most suited to meditate and to be with myself.

Some of the hymns sung in honour of Vardhrajar by early Aazhwar's--Bhoodat  Aazhwar[5 th-6th cent AD ]and later Aazhwar Thirumangai Aazwar[9th cent AD]-- enshrined in this temple at Kachchi---ancient name for Kanchipuram, flowed into my mind.

Kanchipuram is the holy place where Brahma is said to have performed Yagna 's in ancient times and secured several boons from Vishnu, hence the presiding deity's name is Vardharajar-- meaning-giver of boons. It is also the the temple where two ancient residents of Ayodhya ---Asamanjan and his wife transformed into a lizard by a curse , overcame it by having a darshan of Sri Vardharajar swami. There are two golden lizards on the ceiling near the sanctum , in their memory. It is a staunch belief that any sick and diseased person would be cured of his or her illness if they touch these lizards after paying obeisance to the deity.

Of the seven cities of Bharat that are regarded as Mukthi sthals ,Kanchi viz Kanchipuram is the only city in the entire South India to be accorded this status . In days gone by this city was renowned centre of learning and home to scores of Vedic scholars.

This temple is one of the three important  temples of  Vaishnavaites .The others being Sri Ranganathar temple at Srirangam and Sri venakteswara temple atTirumala.
Sri Varadharajar perumal koil is also known as Athigiri or hastigiri as the celestial elephant Aiyravadham is said to have taken the form of a hill to bear Sriman Narayana .

The following are  the hymns dedicated to  Sri Varadharajar and  in this sacred place.
