Heaven and Moksham.
I hear and see it rarely and skip it ,mostly. caught as i am in my daily morning duties Today i did .The presenter' quoted Shankaracharya's observation that Hari and Siva are one and the same and those who oppose should have mud in their mouth.Shakarchariyar was quoting a ancient Tamil proverb .
Applying this quote to me i should have mud in my mouth as i adhere to Brithrahari's observation and dictum in first century AD that A person[hindu] worships either Siva or Vishnu. For me the latter. But what in essence he was saying or advising is that one should not look down upon the other sect and i am in total consonance with this.
Next he reffered toShankarachrya's advise that no one should look down upon other religions as each one has risen in a particular geographical and cultural environment and those who belittle other religions cannot be gyani's .
As i sat sipping bitter cofffee in the balcony draping a light shawl as it was slightly chilly ,i went over what he said and found truth in it,from my point of view and mulled whether to write it or not.
Haven't i already landed myself in enough trouble by comparing religions and culture and this comparison seems to click in me in the beginning of a new year. Didn't my troubles start with my blog in 2010 once a hindu always a hindu?Would those opposing that post will ever oppose Nehru's wonder in Panoroma of Past chapter in his famous Discovery of india [which i read a month back in Bhavans journal of Dec 2015]? He has wondered at the hidden strength of India to retain her culture and identity even after repeated invasions and contacts with various civilisations in her 5000 long history and expresses his pride at her doing so.
I feel like writing it and here goes--
Saw the truth in Shankrachraya's observation .Our beliefs are conditioned since our birth by the environment in which such religions rose.
Why do other religions put so much store on Heaven whilst we don't?Is it because they rose in arid desert conditions in which the ultimate reward for being good and for prayers is heaven?we in here are not that bothered about heaven which is as per our beliefs is only transitory .Is it because our religion rose in this country a very fertile place with plenty of fresh water and no dearth of any resources whose utilisation is highly rewarding for those who strive? In the time of our forefathers this was a land of plenty where milk and honey flowed .Hence this place itself was heavenly .Every thing for a good life was attainable. What more did they want?
May be a bit of that power that caused thier lives in most part to be happy but in some parts unhappy. An power that caused it all but remained detatched from it .This extra ordinary power was and is unattainable ,hence there is a craving to attain it a state that is called as Moksham in which the individual self gets powers, bliss, splendour for eternity nearly at par with the creator .It has been observed and reasoned that th e path to this ultimate goal for person is not all that easy .as it requires absolute control of senses and constant striving to overcome the fruits of bad as well as good Karmas--deeds .To achieve this a single birth was patheticaly insufficient and maybe the belief in re births arose, with every birth a chance to control our selves and get rid of the karmas.
This very tough path is common to all and every one has to under go this except the lucky few ,on whose behalf Bagwan intercedes to grant Moksham
We can count such persons on our fingers. Our epics, vedic stories and puranas have mentioned very few such persons.
