Nithyamalli---All weather jasmine.
I was teased and ridiculed for planting a sapling of Nityamalli ,dug out from a patch of greenery downbelow, onto a flower pot in my balcony ,hoping that it would flower soon and decorate my braid.
As usual i ignored the sarcasm and watered the sapling religiously everyday,as one would a tulsi plant, in all seasons.
Several seasons rolled by , the sapling now a plant , growing out of the grill and swaying in the wind ,rain and sun ,fully clothed with green leaves at times and at others , scrawny looking denuded of its clothing , looking as brittle as twigs ready to be fed, to fire. Not a single bud made its appearance . Yet i stuck on , feeding it , its daily dose of a mug of water.
The one who teased was the first to spot the white long buds , glittering in the morning sun.The plant had suddenly condescended to let out ,the fruit [flower] of my desire and toil whilst i slept.
This was a week or two back.I plucked it and was rewarded with its scent permeating the living room , in all its dainty and gentle fragrance.
I spotted a couple of days back a fresh batch ,of long fingered, soft and white buds.
Alas ,they are out of reach from my eager hands.Though the delicate tendrils appear tantalisingly near ,they are difficult to reach and prise through the narrow iron grills and they have bloomed , throwing their scent upwards , ironically to those who have not planted it or nursed it.
