This temple is said to have been consecrated by
Sahadevan..
A curios sculpture ,that of a man lying prostrate on a stone right in front of the temple greets the devotees,
According to local lore ,this was the man whose duty it was to blow conch early in the morning to awaken Bhagwan but under the bribing influence of Mambhuzha ruler he blew it in the middle of the day and thus invited the fury of the reigning deity who turned him into stone in this very spot.
The outer rock wall is a archaeological wonder. It is stacked perfectly over each other without any mortar to hold it.
Inside th e prakaram is spacious and neat but the Vimanum looked sadly neglected The copper tiles haven't been a polished for ages ,it seems. They look dull .There are paintings around the Vimanum but a lot of it is either peeling off or smeared with black oil.
However the young priest who showed us all other sannidhis as well with great enthusiasm made up for this lack of lustre..That of Narsimhan, Lakshmi, and Murugan .They all look new and well kept. He invited us to visit again.
Dakshinamoorty or lingam is also in the sanctum who can be viewed by a small hole in the Vimanum .
Kuntidevi the mother of Pandavas is said to have expired in the North East corner of the temple's outer boundary.
'Amruth narayan' is the presiding deity who was enshrined by Sahadevan.Mother is karpagavalli.
The sthala purana.--This place was ruled by Rukmangadan who gifted all his good karmas that he gained by observing ekadasi , to deva's ,in this very place .
